TechnonesiaID – Industrial dynamics automotive Global demands continuous innovation, especially in terms of efficiency and performance. In line with the increasingly massive electrification trend, Motulas the world’s leading lubricant manufacturer, releases its advanced product line.
Motul introduces the latest series electrified vehicle engine lubricants which is claimed to have an extraordinary level of durability, answering the challenges of efficiency and performance at the 2026 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in Jakarta.
The development of car engine technology is not only moving towards full electric power, but also optimizing conventional engines through technological integration hybrid. This combination demands a lubricant that is much more complex and capable than previous generations.
Welmart Purba, Managing Director of PT Motul Indonesia, emphasized that the complexity of modern engines is currently the main trigger for the evolution of lubricant standards. Motul must continue to balance specific lubrication needs without sacrificing the global quality standards it has maintained.
The Evolution of Modern Engines and the Need for High Performance Lubricants
Internal combustion engine (ICE) technology has undergone a radical transformation. Many car manufacturers are now implementing the concept downsizing—reduces engine capacity while increasing power through use turbocharger. Although efficient, this design creates higher working pressures and temperatures within the engine compartment.
“As the development of vehicle engine technology becomes increasingly modern, starting from implementation downsizinguse turbochargerto demands for protection against phenomena Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI), lubricant performance standards must also continue to evolve,” explained Welmart in IIMS 2026.
LSPI, or low-speed pre-ignition, is a serious problem that often occurs in small-capacity direct injection engines equipped with turbos. This phenomenon can cause serious engine damage. Therefore, modern lubricants must be specially formulated to reduce the risk of LSPI, while keeping the engine clean from carbon deposits which can interfere with the performance of injectors and valves.
Welmart adds that the latest industry standards, such as API SP (or API SQ as it is called), come in response to the need for the latest engines to operate at much higher pressures and efficiencies. This standard not only focuses on protection, but also on the lubricant’s ability to support fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions.
The Role of Lubricants Goes Beyond Just Protection
In the context of modern engines, the role of lubricants has shifted. Lubricants no longer only function as protective fluids that separate moving components. Now, lubricants act as ‘enablers’ or key performance drivers.
“Lubricant is becoming increasingly crucial, not just protecting engine components, but also an element supporting optimal performance and long-term reliability of vehicles,” said Welmart. This means the lubricant must have superior thermal stability, be able to maintain viscosity under extreme pressure, and ensure efficient heat transfer.
Special Challenges of Lubrication in Electrified (Hybrid) Vehicles
Vehicle hybrid (HEV) presents unique and more complex lubrication challenges than purely conventional engines. Engine on car hybrid often experience on-off cyclesstop-start cycle) which is very fast and frequent. It’s demanding is a machine hybrid to immediately lubricate critical components when the engine starts suddenly and reaches optimal operating temperature in a short time.
The engine design in electrified vehicles is often more compact and has a small capacity, but must bear a high workload, especially when the engine switches from electric to combustion mode.
- Stop-Start Cycle: The lubricant must have excellent adhesion (sticking) capabilities to ensure engine components are protected even after the engine has been off for a long time.
- Temperature Variations: Machine hybrid often operate at lower temperatures than conventional engines, which increases the risk of water condensation and sludge formation. The oil must be able to deal with this contamination effectively.
- Responsive Needs: Lubricants must be able to penetrate into the smallest spaces and provide instant protection when torque is suddenly needed.
“Technological innovation hybrid which are increasingly used demand much more sophisticated and capable lubricants. Oil today is needed not only protection but also mover performance due to new engine evolution,” said Welmart, emphasizing the importance of specific formulations for electrified vehicles.
Motul Strengthens Electrified Vehicle Engine Lubricant Line
To answer increasingly specific market needs, Motul made significant updates to their Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) product line. This update ensures full compatibility with the latest engine technologies, including engines hybrid and which require low viscosity specifications for maximum efficiency.
This formulation enhancement includes several of Motul’s flagship products, including:
- Multigrade Class Plus
- Multipower Plus
- H-Tech 100 Plus
- NGEN Hybrid (Specially formulated as electrified vehicle engine lubricants)
- Motul 300V (Racing series that also gets technological improvements)
Specifically for the NGEN Hybrid series, this product targets the vehicle segment directly hybrid which is growing rapidly in Indonesia. This formulation is designed to address cyclical challenges stop-start that is intense and provides optimal fuel efficiency, in line with the demands of modern consumers.
Presence Latest Motul PCMO This at IIMS 2026 clearly confirms Motul’s readiness to follow and even lead the direction of development of the global automotive industry, especially in the electrification segment.
“Currently, the PCMO product line is the newest Motul is already available on the market and will continue to be equipped in the near future to meet the needs of consumers in Indonesia more broadly. “We are committed to providing the best lubrication solutions to ensure the reliability and performance of future generations of vehicles,” concluded Welmart Purba, ensuring that Motul innovation is ready to be accessed by consumers who are increasingly aware of the importance of high-quality lubricants for their advanced technology.
