AXIALNEWS.id | North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution received a disaster donation of IDR 4.7 billion from the Batam City Government (Pemko), as a matter of concern and solidarity to help the people of North Sumatra affected by floods and landslides.
The assistance was handed over by the Mayor of Batam Amsakar Achmad together with the Deputy Mayor of Batam Li Claudia Chandra to the Governor of North Sumatra at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, Jalan Sudirman Number 41 Medan, Thursday (8/1/2026).
The total assistance handed over was IDR 4,700,000,000, consisting of Batam City APBD assistance IDR 2,500,000,000 and Batam community donations IDR 2,200,000,000.
Governor Bobby Nasution expressed his gratitude for the concern of the Batam City Government and its entire community. He emphasized that all aid will be managed transparently and accountably and distributed according to the needs of the affected communities.

“We express our gratitude for the presence and support of the Batam City Government. This assistance is very meaningful for the people of North Sumatra during the recovery period,” said Bobby.
Bobby explained the current conditions of disasters in North Sumatra as of January 8 2026. Of the 33 districts/cities in North Sumatra, 18 areas were affected by disasters, with the worst conditions occurring in the Regency:
- North Tapanuli,
- Central Tapanuli,
- South Tapanuli,
- Humbang Hasundutan, as well
- Sibolga City.
Data as of January 8, 2026:
- The number of people affected by the disaster reached 479,045 heads of families (KK) or 1,803,549 people.
- The number of refugees was recorded as 3,371 families or 13,378 people.
- The death toll was 372 people.
- The number of injured reached 126 people.

The total estimated loss due to the disaster reached IDR 17.23 trillion. “Losses due to disasters in the infrastructure, economic and social sectors are estimated at IDR 17.23 trillion,” explained Bobby.
Currently, the North Sumatra Provincial Government has entered a disaster emergency transition period for three months, with a focus on saving the community, fulfilling basic needs, and reducing the number of refugees through the construction of temporary shelters (Huntara) and permanent shelters (Huntap).
“We want help from the Batam City Government and our community to build Huntap so that it can become a memory for the City Government and the Batam community,” said Bobby.

Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad expressed his deep condolences for the disaster that befell the people of North Sumatra, as well as a number of other areas in Sumatra.
He explained that the donation drive was carried out to coincide with the anniversary of Batam City and New Year’s Eve, as a form of participation and solidarity of the people of Batam.
Until December 31, 2025, the total cash assistance collected reached IDR 14,074,230,409. The funds consist of assistance from the 2025 Batam City APBD amounting to IDR 7.5 billion and community donations amounting to IDR 6,574,230,409.
